Summary: Famitsu celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) franchise with a special counting over thirty pages, with retrospectives on the whole franchise, from games to spin-off material and also several interviews with key staff members who have worked on the various games in these twenty years. In this article, Famitsu interviews series creator Takumi Shū, addressing points like how it was working on the original game twenty years ago, how the writing process goes, people he worked with and the way the series has grown into a multimedia franchise that is much more than just one single GameBoy Advance game.

Summary: Computer Entertainment Developers Conference (CEDEC) 2015 was held in August 2015 and one of the lectures featured was one of Capcom programmer Kimoto Masahiro, who had worked on Gyakuten Saiban 5 (Ace Attorney 5 – Dual Destinies) and Dai Gyakuten Saiban – Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Bōken (The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures). In the lecture, Kimoto explains how scripts are used to create the typical feel of the Gyakuten Saiban series, by controlling factors like camera, text speed and music. He explains how the tools were created to simplify the task for the planners, but also points out what other problems were created because of their work process. Summary: The October 2017 issue of Nintendo Dream featured a long multi-part interview with the development staff of the 2017 title Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 (The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve). In Volume 1 of this feature director/scenario writer Takumi Shū, art director Nuri Kazuya and producer Eshiro Motohide discuss the game in general. They explain how the game had to be produced under very limited circumstances, but that everyone was eager to get the game out to provide the players with the answers to lingering mysteries from the first game. They also talk about Takumi’s understanding of the characters had changed and how the main visual art was conceived. In the second part of the article, the interviewer showed Eshiro and Nuri columns Takumi had written for Nintendo Dream when the first Dai Gyakuten Saiban  (The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures) was released in 2015 and asked them about the same topics like how they first gotten interested in games and what their hobbies are.

Summary: Takumi Shū, director/scenario writer of Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures) wrote a six-part column in 2015 for the magazine Nintendo Dream titled The Little Adventures of Mr. Takumi. The theme of these columns was "first meetings" and had Takumi write about his first experiences with topics that would have a significant impact on his future life, like his first games or his first meeting with stage magic. In this first column, dating from the September issue, Takumi talks about a certain work of fiction that had a profound influence on his own writing, and surprisingly enough, it's not even a mystery story: Dr. Dolittle.

Summary: On March 30th, 2018, series creator Takumi Shū headed a presentation about the Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) series at Game Creators Conference’18. In this presentation titled “About the Scenarios of Gyakuten Saiban / Dai Gyakuten Saiban”, Takumi explained how he creates the mystery plots for his Gyakuten Saiban and Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney) series. He explains his methods for coming up with the stories, with the trick needed to pull off the fanciful murders and how he plays with the information flow to keep the player engaged in the story. He also explains about the worldview of the games, and other things he did to make this an entertaining adventure game series for players. Takumi also explains the concept behind Dai Gyakuten Saiban and some of its key points. At the end of the presentation, there was also room for a short Q&A.

In the interview, taken on the day before the release of Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 - Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Kakugo (The Great Ace Attorney: Resolve) is not only asked about how he first created the Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) series, but also about how development on Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 went, as well as about Takumi came to work in the game industry in the first place. As part of the series, Takumi is also asked about his views on the future of the game industry, especially in relation to the uprise of social/casual games lately.

The August 10, 2017 issue of Famitsu featured the first half of a long interview with director Takumi, art director Nuri and producer Eshiro on the upcoming release Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 - Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Kakugo (The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve), which was scheduled for release for the following week (the magazine itself is always released before the date on the magazine). This first half of the deep interview includes topics like how this project first started, what the graphical challenges were, reflections on the first game and how elements like the characters have changed for this game.

Web published an interview with Takumi Shū, director of the game Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures) and the well-known Sherlockian and author Kitahara Naohiko to talk about Sherlock Holmes. The two talk about the Sherlock Holmes that appears in the game and how he relates to other interpretations of the character, but also about the setting of Victorian London and of course, about the Sherlock Holmes series in general, from their favorite stories to how Takumi first came into contact with the character which would receive a member of the main cast in his game.

Summary: On June 4, 2017, series producer Eshiro and series director Takumi held a "Special Court Seminar" on Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) the Akihabara, Tokyo location of the Human Academy The two discussed how the game series was first created and the core concepts behind it. The two also discuss how the spin-off series Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures) was conceived. A Never-ending Love for Columbo (2015)

Summary: In the marketing campagin leading up to the release of Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures), director and scenario writer Takumi Shū had a discussion interview with mystery writer Ōkura Takahiro, well-known for his Fukuie Keibuho ('Lt. Fukuie') series (see this link). While the main theme was of course Dai Gyakuten Saiban, the topic of the discussion eventually changed to the famous TV mystery drama Columbo. Both men are big fans of the series, and they started to talk that much about it, it had to be cut out of the original interview text. Kono Manga ga Sugoi eventually did publish this part of their interview, exclusively about Columbo, on their site. This translation is of the extra part specifically about Columbo.
