Summary: The Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) special “No objection to Gyakuten Saiban” featured in the March 20212 issue of Hayakawa's Mystery Magazine had essays and in-depth looks at the Gyakuten Saiban series and legal mystery fiction in general, as well as special interviews with the two main writers of the series: Takumi Shū, director and writer of the main series, and Yamazaki Takeshi, director and main writer of the Gyakuten Kenji (Ace Attorney Investigation) spin-off series. In the interview with Takumi, he talks about the mystery fiction that inspired him, how the plotting works in the Gyakuten Saiban series and what books he'd like to adapt as a game if given the opportunity.

Summary: The March 20212 issue of Hayakawa's Mystery Magazine had a Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) special titled “No objection to Gyakuten Saiban”, featuring essays and in-depth looks at the Gyakuten Saiban series and legal mystery fiction in general, a preview of the live-action film adaptation and interviews with the two main writers of the series: Takumi Shū, director and writer of the main series, and Yamazaki Takeshi, director and main writer of the Gyakuten Kenji (Ace Attorney Investigation) spin-off series. In the interview with Yamazaki, he talks about the mystery fiction that inspired him, his first encounter with the series and how his first tasks at Capcom, working on the Gyakuten Kenji series and about what kind of mystery games he’d like to work on.

Summary: In the tenth entry of the Gyakuten Saiban 3 (Ace Attorney 3 - Trials & Tribulations) blog, Takumi talks about writing the second episode in the game: The Stolen Turnabout. As he mentions in the eleventh entry of the blog, he considers the second episode in his games as the second-most important episodes after the first one, because they are usually the first full case in a game. For 3, he decided to use a story based on the works of Edogawa Rampo, the author of the short story that got Takumi interested in mystery fiction in the first place. Takumi also talks about the new prosecutor Godot.

Summary: Nazotoki Live ('Mystery Solving Live') is a program where both viewers and studio guest are challenged to solve a murder mystery live. A murder mystery drama is occassionally interrupted by questions aimed at the studio guests and viewers back home, that serve as a hint to identifying who the murderer is. The program is broadcast on two consecutive nights. Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) series creator Takumi Shū was one of the three studio guest of the episode broadcast in January, 2016. The interview translated below was held between him and mystery writer Ayatsuji Yukito, who wrote the episode. The discussion also touches lightly on the creation process of both writers.

A Never-ending Love for Columbo (2015)

Summary: In the marketing campagin leading up to the release of Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures), director and scenario writer Takumi Shū had a discussion interview with mystery writer Ōkura Takahiro, well-known for his Fukuie Keibuho ('Lt. Fukuie') series (see this link). While the main theme was of course Dai Gyakuten Saiban, the topic of the discussion eventually changed to the famous TV mystery drama Columbo. Both men are big fans of the series, and they started to talk that much about it, it had to be cut out of the original interview text. Kono Manga ga Sugoi eventually did publish this part of their interview, exclusively about Columbo, on their site. This translation is of the extra part specifically about Columbo.

Summary: A special discussion interview posted on July 8, 2015, held between Dai Gyakuten Saiban (The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures)'s Takumi Shū and the mystery writer Ōkura Takahiro, best known for his Fukuie Keibuho ('Lt. Fukuie') series. Takumi met with several mystery writers as part of the marketing campaign of Dai Gyakuten Saiban. A shorter version of this interview also appeared on the official Dai Gyakuten Saiban website. In this interview, Takumi talks about several mystery writers, and novels, that have influenced his writing of the Gyakuten Saiban (Ace Attorney) series.

Summary: An essay by Takumi Shū on the link between mystery fiction, and video games. He touches upon how he came upon the idea of the contradiction system for his own games, his memories of playing mystery games and an idea for a possible game to be made in the future. The essay was included in Misshitsu Mystery no Meikyū ('The Maze of Locked Room Mysteries'), a mook on locked room mystery fiction, edited by Arisugawa Alice. The mook also includes a questionnaire with respondents, including Takumi, naming their favorite locked room mystery novels of all time, as well other memories concerning the subgenre.
